Our Special Character

Our Charism

Our charism comes from the Mercy order founded by Sr Catherine McAuley RSM. The Mercy order brings us our children’s prayer (below) that we share each Monday morning.

Prayer
  • Each class begins and ends the day in prayer.
  • Grace is said before lunch.
  • Each staff member takes responsibility for leading school prayer every Monday morning.
  • Prayer begins and ends each school assembly, staff and BOT meeting.

Religious Education (RE) Curriculum
  • Each term begins with a prayer module.
  • Throughout the year the following strands are covered by all year levels: God, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, Communion of Saints, Sacraments and Church.
  • A copy of the learning intentions from the Family Whanau book for each strand, are pasted into students homework books at the beginning of a new teaching unit.
  • A digital resource is used to support the learning.
  • Students maintain a RE book which can be viewed by parents at any time.

Masses and Liturgies
  • The students take an active part in the Mass for the whole Parish one Sunday per term.
  • Fortnightly Wednesday Masses supported by all classes throughout the year.
  • The school celebrates a number of liturgies at the school throughout the year.
  • Parents are very welcome at every Mass and liturgy we hold.

Sacramental Programme
  • Each year the school, through the Parish, offers a Baptismal programme for students who have not yet received Baptism.
  • The Sacramental programme is a parish based which runs every second year, supported by the school for the other Sacraments of initiation into the the Church
  • The programme includes: First Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Holy Communion and is available to every baptised Catholic student 7 years-of-age and above.

Pastoral Care
  • The Parish Priest is the School’s Chaplain.
  • We always aim to support our school and parish community through our prayers and action whenever there is a need.
  • We show our school value of compassion through our actions as members of our Alexandra community and support of the Catholic Social Justice organisation like Caritas.
  • Restorative Practice is the behaviour education used within the school and is based on the act of reconciliation.
