Structured Literacy


We began teaching literacy in a structured systematic approach using the science of how the brain learns to read and write in 2019, whereby we identify with all New Entrants, and any other at-risk students, their phonological awareness knowledge and application. all children at St Gerards are taught using this pedagogy, the ideal platform supports this approach and is used schoolwide. 

​An assessment is completed by classroom teachers, and then support for identified students is put in place alongside teachers. All students across the school are tested using learning matters framework.

​If your child needs extra support you will be informed by your child’s teacher. This programme is completed at school.
